The analysis aims to present the general situation of health and the environment in the Basque Autonomous Community, through a report on leading environmental indicators.
The Naider team, in collaboration with IHOBE, is in charge of preparing the Environmental Profile of the Basque Autonomous Community 2023 in the field of Health and Environment. The Environmental Profile is a tool that periodically evaluates the general situation of the environment in the Basque region, through a report of headline environmental indicators that show the evolution of the main indicators for the Basque region. This document is drawn up following a history of environmental profiles that the Department of Economic Development, Sustainability and Environment has been publishing since 2015.
In line with Sustainable Development Goal 3, to ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages, and the Health and Environment Challenge 2 of the V. Environmental Framework Programme 2030 of the Basque Autonomous Community, the Basque Environmental Profile 2023 seeks to present a knowledge base on the close relationship between the environment, health and well-being, deepening the importance of environmental health. This is necessary in order to then promote solutions in the field and, in particular, to address the environment-related health goals and targets of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
This project includes the identification and calculation of a series of indicators to define the current environmental health of the Basque Country and to analyse the challenges and prospects facing Basque society.
The analysis will serve to identify the pressures/challenges facing the Basque Autonomous Community and those expected to affect the health of the population. Likewise, an aggregate index on Environmental Health will be developed, based on EEA parameters, which will serve as a monitoring and control indicator.
The preparation of the environmental profile involves the participation of experts in the field through different personalised interviews, selected for their global and transversal vision of the fields of Health and the Environment.
