Bilbao City Council is promoting the development of the Bilbao 2030 Climate Mission, an ambitious initiative to accelerate the city’s transition to climate neutrality. This project is based on the City of Bilbao’s Climate Agreement and is in line with the European Union’s Horizon Europe mission to achieve 100 climate neutral and smart cities by 2030.
The Bilbao 2030 Climate Mission aims to implement a systemic approach to sustainability, promoting collaboration between citizens, public and private actors. It is articulated around several key axes, including the city’s commitment to climate neutrality, institutional coordination, monitoring and continuous updating, as well as the development of a Climate Action Plan, a Climate Investment Plan and a Stakeholder Plan.
To achieve its objectives, the Mission focuses on:
- Establish a participatory and multi-level process.
- Encourage citizen participation and new forms of governance.
- Promote a just and equitable transition in line with the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals.
- Generate co-benefits such as improved air quality, job creation and sustainable mobility.
This project represents a comprehensive effort to transform Bilbao into a climate innovation hub through collaboration, integrated urban planning and the use of smart systems and data platforms. Bilbao City Council is counting on the support of Naider in the development of this mission.
Naider, which has already worked with the city council on initiatives such as the Climate and Sustainable Energy Action Plan (PACES) and the 2050 Strategy for Neutrality, Resilience and Health, will provide its expertise in sustainability, ecological transition, energy transformation and climate action. As part of this process, Naider has proposed the inclusion of an advisory board of international experts to enrich the project.
