Monitoring investment effort in R&D is a key element in guiding innovation policies and supporting strategic decision-making. However, official statistics usually present a time lag, making it difficult to access up-to-date information when it is most needed.
In this context, INNOBASQUE, the Basque Innovation Agency, has launched a new edition of the Early Estimate of the R&D Indicator project, continuing work carried out on an annual basis to anticipate the evolution of R&D expenditure in the Basque Country.
Naider supports INNOBASQUE by applying its own established econometric methodology, developed and refined over successive editions of the indicator. The approach combines:
- Quantitative analysis of relevant economic and technological variables.
- A qualitative component based on expert interpretation and in-depth knowledge of the Basque R&D ecosystem.
This methodology makes it possible to produce reliable forward estimates and to reduce the uncertainty associated with delays in official statistical sources.
The project will update the early estimate of the R&D Indicator for 2025 and develop a projection for 2026. These results will provide an anticipated and coherent view of the evolution of R&D investment effort in the Basque Country, strengthening the annual monitoring of the indicator and generating a robust analytical basis for comparative analysis and strategic decision-making.
