Many large companies are whetting their appetites at the significant business opportunities that the development of the Internet of Things will bring. The telecommunications company Verizon has published the report State of the Market: Internet of Things 2016, according to which between 2014 and 2021 the number of connected objects in the world will multiply by three: from 9.7 billion to more than 30 billion . The estimate for 2019 is 26.5 billion connected objects.

Between 2014 and 2015, IoT networks like Sigfox and LoRa dedicated to connected objects have seen their number of connections increase by 58%, according to the report. The largest increase has been in the energy and utilities sector (an increase of 58%), followed by the connected home or home automation (50%), transport and distribution (49%), smart cities (43% ), agriculture (33%) and health/pharmaceuticals (26%).
