Climate change: A worrying record

Last Thursday, March 3, we crossed a worrying threshold, as stated on the World Economic Forum. According to preliminary data, for a few hours it reached 2 degrees Celsius above ‘normal’ in the northern hemisphere, something unprecedented since records exist. This fact is significant; Two degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels are internationally established as the red line that must not be crossed if we want to avoid catastrophic impacts for humanity.

We are experiencing a very hot winter affected by the El Niño phenomenon in the Pacific. The record comes just after the warmest February on record. But as confirmed by reputable voices in meteorology, the records are not only attributable to El Niño; climate change plays an important role.

Let’s hope that the two degrees Celsius above normal values ​​will not be repeated for a long time and that they will never become a recurring record.
