London, Amsterdam and Copenhagen recently launched a new joint initiative whereby the three European capitals will collaborate on a series of projects aimed at developing and accelerating the move towards a circular economy. In addition to collaborating on projects, the three cities committed to sharing information and experiences to try to roll out circular economy action plans. The initiative was launched on 4 March at the “Circular Cities and Government”, which took place in London City Hall, City Hall.

The objective of the first project of the initiative is defined as the improvement of the value capture of plastic, and agents of the three corresponding waste authorities will work together for it. The capitals intend to position themselves, through this collaboration, as the vanguard of the circular economy. However, the London Waste and Recycling Committee published a document, “Towards a circular economy”, which identified that the city could gain up to £7bn in opportunities from of the circular economy.
