Euskotren, the railway operator dependent on the Basque Government, has commissioned the company Construction and Railway Auxiliary ( CAF) the manufacture of 28 new units within the framework of its objective of renewing the fleet in addition to covering the needs of line 3 of the Bilbao metro.

The €150M order must be delivered between 2015 and 2020 and the first units are expected to be operational by the end of 2016. Twelve of the trains will be used for line 3 of the Bilbao Metro, and each unit built will have three 17-meter-long cars (motor-trailer-motor), with the possibility of including a fourth car in the future, which will allow a capacity of 296 people per train and 94 seats.

This new fleet will incorporate the most advanced technological innovations in the railway sector in terms of technology, reliability, sustainability and ergonomics.
