The United Kingdom, a country famous for its “good weather” will be the lucky one to host the Europe’s largest solar plant, this facility will be located at Godley Reservoir, in Manchester, and will have 12,000 solar panels in a radius of 45,500 square meters, It is estimated that the facility is capable of providing up to 2.7 GWh per year for the benefit of local residents.
The construction company, United States, hopes to have the installation completed by Christmas 2015 within the self-supply goal of 35% of the energy that the area has set for 2020. In the words of Chris Stubbs, head of renewable energy at United Utilities “While floating solar technology has been deployed in other parts of the world, most notably in Japan, for the UK it is a new technology. Solar installations with the Godley scheme will help us keep electricity costs and customers’ water bills low.”
The truth is that Asian countries have been the first to sign up for floating solar plants that are beginning to spring up in other parts of the planet step by step.
