Removing mobile data before taking a plane abroad to avoid a bill longer than a Tolkien trilogy had become an unpleasant habit for thousands and thousands of travelers who did not have the famous roaming service. Fortunately, the days of this practice are numbered and the fact is that the European Union has approved a measure that will prevent telephone operators from charging for the use of the Internet abroad as of 2017, as long as they are countries belonging to the union.
This measure comes after complaints from consumer associations that saw the rates imposed for browsing the Internet with mobile phones outside the limits of the country of origin abusive, for this reason, the EU decided on June 30th to agree to this measure, which was finally made public this week.
Even so, companies may apply a “fair” use policy to prevent abusive roaming practices by users, these policies, however, are still to be defined.
