The activist and veterinarian fromInternational Animal Rescue – Indonesia, Karmele Llano sends us the following idea.Karmele has spent more than 10 years in Indonesia fighting for animal rights, for the protection of the last orangutans on the planet -and for other lesser-known species-, but also fighting against the irrational deforestation of primary forest that is taking place in the country and of which the Basque Country is also an accomplice.
IDEA FOR THE BASQUE COUNTRY #20: The idea that I propose for the Basque Country and for the new Government is to promote responsible consumption. Our way of life in developed countries has a continuous negative impact on those in the countries of the South, the most disadvantaged countries. Many times consumers are not aware of this and many times we either lack information or live in deception. In the documentary entitled “Euskal Herria The Hidden Debt” we can see the reality of some of the products that Euskal Herria matter.
We must demand that the leaders of our Government inform citizens of the products or raw materials that are imported into the Basque Country, and that these imports from countries of the South are made with the least possible impact.
By educating citizens to consume more responsibly, we could reduce our ecological footprint and the negative impact that our way of life has on life on the planet. In addition to promoting local products, products from the land, we also favor the economy of our own country.
Eskerrik asko Karmele, terima kasih!
