The University of the Basque Country and the Department of the Environment, Territorial Planning and Housing of the Basque Government launch the first state postgraduate degree in Circular Economy with an industrial approach, the third of its kind in Europe. The postgraduate course entitled “University Specialization in Circular Economy: Application to business” is will take place for the first time between October 2019 and April 2020, in collaboration with Ihobe and the Basque Ecodesign Center, at the Bilbao School of Engineering and the Faculty of Economics and Business. However, it is aimed at engineering and business administration professionals, offering 30 places in its inaugural edition.

The postgraduate course aims to provide a solution to the “scarce” training offer that exists in the post-university framework in this field, and thus help meet the objective established in the Circular Economy Strategy of the Basque Country of creating 3,000 new jobs in this scope before 2030. It is noted that there is a significant demand for professionals in Circular Economy from the industrial sector, and the European Union estimates that the Circular Economy can create over 580,000 direct jobs.
