The shadow tax

Unfortunately, it is not always possible to give positive news when it comes to alternative or renewable energy; Last Friday, the eve of the long weekend, the Spanish government approved the royal decree that includes some controversial “tolls” for self-consumption of electricity through solar panels.

This regulation was ready to be approved by the government since the beginning of the legislature, but it was not until last week that it was finally carried out, with the block opposition against the decree.

In principle, the measure will not force all solar energy consumers to go through the checkout, only those who consume more than a certain amount, at least in principle, since in the words of José Donoso, director of the Spanish Photovoltaic Union (UNEF) “this exception is temporary”.
