The city of Vienna has made an online tool available to its inhabitants so that they can transform parking areas into small removable parks. The website, called CityMaking, provides a guide so that each user can find an available space on the map, plan the construction of the micropark , and submit the design proposal for approval. According to the blog Pop Up City, more than 30 points in the city have already been converted into spaces that can be shared with the neighbourhood.

Faced with concerns that spaces could end up unused or unmaintained, the city holds the people who started each project legally responsible for the facilities.

The experience, which seeks to begin returning space dedicated to cars to the public, follows the line of other similar short-term urban planning initiatives in cities such as The Hague. In Europe, cars are parked 92% of the time , and despite this, 50% of urban space is dedicated to motorized traffic.
