The company Haizea Wind will create a plant in the Port of Bilbao for the production of offshore wind towers and components for the European market. With a total investment of 55 million euros for its construction, equipment and commissioning, the new plant will generate 296 jobs. It is expected to come into operation before March 2018, as stated in eldiario.es.

The complex, which will have around 49,000 m2 on a 77,000 m2 plot, will have a production capacity of 180 offshore wind towers destined for the high seas. The Port Authority awarded the construction for 17.5 million euros, and Haizea Wind was awarded a concession for the next 35 years.

Haizea Wind will contribute 37.4 million euros to the project, while the company Ekarpen – owned by the Basque Government, Provincial Councils, Kutxabank and Mondragon – will contribute 12 million.
