The Circular Cities Declaration (CCD) 2022 Report looks at circular economy practices in 40 European cities of different sizes, and draws some notable conclusions:
- Cities, as powerhouses that often drive a country’s economic growth and innovation, are critical to the circular transition.
- Half of the 40 cities participating in the report already have circular economy strategies or are developing them.
- The most common circular economy program in cities involves material loops, such as the collection and treatment of building materials and food. There is also an increasing presence of regenerative infrastructures, such as urban gardens, to promote biodiversity in our cities.
- Progress towards circularity is not as fast as it could be if skills and knowledge were incorporated. New funding opportunities must also be unlocked.
