This week, the SHORESAFE project proposal has been officially submitted to the Horizon Europe programme. The initiative is an ambitious effort aiming to transform risk management in European coastal areas towards a more preventive, predictive, integrated and participatory model.

The project is planned to run for four years and has a total budget of €4 million. It is led by the University of Alicante, to whom we extend our warmest congratulations and appreciation for their excellent coordination and leadership.

NAIDER is part of the consortium alongside leading European entities such as ENT, ERINN, IHS, ATU and other partners with whom we are proud to collaborate again after previous shared experiences.

The main objective of SHORESAFE is to enhance the safety and wellbeing of coastal populations by reducing damage to infrastructures and ecosystems. To achieve this, it will combine advanced technologies —including artificial intelligence, Internet of Things and computer vision— with social innovation through co-creation processes, living labs, training and awareness activities. All of this will be integrated within a multi-risk governance system designed to improve coordination between civil protection, emergency services, local communities and the private sector.

Key expected results include an integrated digital platform, participatory governance structures, medical response protocols and inclusive communication strategies, all developed with the support of social sciences and humanities.

At NAIDER, we hope the proposal will be selected so that we can contribute over the coming years to strengthening coastal resilience across Europe, promoting innovative, people-centred solutions to natural risks.
