The Socio-Economic Impact Analysis Report for LIFE IP Urban Klima 2050 has been published on the project’s official website. This report, which Naider helped to prepare, details the impacts generated by the actions of this project in the autonomous community of the Basque Country.

LIFE IP Urban Klima 2050, led by Ihobe and the Basque Government, is the largest climate action project in the Basque Country. Approved by the European Union as part of the LIFE Integrated projects for climate change mitigation and adaptation, its interventions seek environmental regeneration, renaturalisation and restoration.

The project’s activities have an impact on wealth, territorial development, job creation, business competitiveness, economic activity and social cohesion. To enhance the multiplier effect of these impacts and encourage replication of the solutions employed, it is essential to conduct a clear analysis of their economic and social effects.

This report, which is based on data from the first two years of the project, assesses the direct, indirect, and induced socio-economic impacts of the implemented actions. The report’s main objectives are:

  • Identify and quantify the impact on socio-economic factors such as production and employment.
  • Evaluate the environmental and social advantages of climate action, considering both the reduction of negative externalities and the provision of environmental goods and services.
  • Provide detailed information on investments and benefits to facilitate project planning and monitoring.
  • Supply objective data to inform decision-making and help assess project progress and prioritise actions.

Preparing the report made it possible to establish an evaluation methodology that can be maintained throughout the project for future evaluations and monitoring of results over time. A methodological framework has also been developed to assess environmental, social and economic benefits, providing a comprehensive evaluation of the impact of the actions.

Naider collaborated on this work by assisting in the preparation of the socio-economic impact analysis. Additionally, Ihobe and the other Urban Klima 2050 management agents have been provided with knowledge of methodologies for assessing socio-economic impacts and techniques for the economic valuation of environmental impacts.
