The conflict in Ukraine has led to the\nrising costs of fossil fuels such as oil and natural gas, and\nis accelerating decision-making in the global energy arena. The dependence of\nsupplies <\/strong>and the threat to\ncoverage of energy needs <\/strong>have underlined the need, at least in Europe, to reduce the\nenergy dependence and move towards a sustainable model<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Organizations and companies are not always\nprepared for disruptive events of this nature, events that usually\naccelerate inevitable model changes. A recent report on decarbonization and the company of the\nWorld Economic Forum (Winning<\/a>the<\/a>Race<\/a>\nto Net Zero: <\/a>The<\/a>\nCEO <\/a>Guide<\/a>\nto <\/a>Climate<\/a>Advantage<\/a>) explains that\nFaced with technological changes, companies tend to underestimate the pace and\ndepth of transformation to come, collectively. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the one hand, companies often underestimate the pace\nof technological progress, for example, for photovoltaics, both\nin increasing capacity and reducing unit costs. On the other hand,\nthere is often too much trust in the inertia of prevailing policies; in\ncrisis escalates, regulators catch up with more\nambitious than anticipated. Finally, companies underestimate how quickly\nlong-term changes affect your industry and business model. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Given the changes that the ecological transition will cause in sectors of the economy, positioning yourself as a forerunner can bring several competitive advantages: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022Attraction of talent<\/strong>: Companies that make a firm commitment to sustainability are more attractive to attract and retain talented people. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022Demand growth<\/strong>: The companies leading the energy transition compete in market segments and sectors with the highest demand growth. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022Cost reduction<\/strong>: The commitment to more efficient solutions and processes leads to lower costs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022Risk reduction<\/strong>: Companies that join the changes early are less exposed to penalties and overcharges in the future. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022Access to capital<\/strong>: Precursors often have better access to finance. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022Best legacy<\/strong>: Companies that promote sustainability provide greater value to society as a whole. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are a number of ways to be pioneers and be proactive in\nchange in a sector, rather than reactants. Set ambitious goals\ncan inspire and be a reference for the entire sector. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prioritizing energy efficiency and decarbonization, the\norganizations can achieve savings in the process, and in some activities\nit will be possible to achieve zero emissions at zero cost.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beyond worrying about obtaining sustainable and efficient supplies, companies can focus on developing and offering more efficient products to the market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
