In 2030, it is expected that 60% of the world population (5 billion people) will live in cities. If not resolved, urbanization<\/strong> will bring with it greater congestion<\/strong>, pollution<\/strong> and enormous competition<\/strong> for strong>precious resources<\/strong>. To avoid these consequences as far as possible, cities must adapt and become real examples of sustainable living<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In 2008, Masdar City<\/strong> burst forth, a project to develop the most sustainable<\/strong> city and lowest carbon use<\/strong> in the world, in the middle of the Abu Dhabi desert<\/strong>. Since its inception, the promoters of this city knew that a project<\/strong> as visionary as the one they had in mind would become a challenge and a far-reaching evolutionary process. Today, through smart investments, Masdar City has achieved great success in pioneering the implementation<\/strong> of the “green footprint”<\/strong> as a system for knowing how to make compatible <\/strong>rapid urbanization<\/strong> with a drastic reduction<\/strong> of energy<\/strong> and water<\/strong> use strong> and the generation<\/strong> of waste<\/strong>. The a priori utopian and daring dream has finally come true, exceeding all the limits established so far in terms of sustainable design and innovative technology.<\/p>\n

The purpose of this project is to create a smart and sustainable city <\/strong> with a double intention <\/strong>, on the one hand to become a leader <\/strong> in the development of techniques for renewable energies <\/strong>and, on the other, prioritizing climate protection. <\/strong>It is similar to the role that Californian Silicon Valley played 40 years ago in its sector, demonstrating that an alternative form of development is possible.<\/strong> In fact, the first part of the construction is posed by the Masdar Institute of Science and Technology, which together with MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology), seeks to explore new forms of renewable energy<\/strong>, which will be applied and used throughout the construction process of the project.<\/p>\n

Masdar City<\/strong> is a complete ecosystem<\/strong>, bringing together research and development<\/strong>, a technological cluster<\/strong>, a free zone <\/strong> and an investment area<\/strong>. In order to reach the maximum potential of the city (and be applicable to other cases), the guiding principles<\/strong> of the >sustainability<\/strong>, thus ensuring a social, environmental and economic value.<\/p>\n
