The Second Edition<\/strong> of “Transformation, Regeneration and Naturalisation of the Urban and Industrial Environment<\/a>“<\/strong> will take place on 20 and 21 July<\/strong> at the Miramar Palace in Donostia, within the framework of the summer courses of the University of the Basque Country<\/strong>. This course will focus on the renewed conception of the urban and viable responses to new social demands, more demanding environmental parameters, necessary processes of energy transformation and new models of economic and business activity in our cities.<\/p>\n\n\n

Structural deficits of the dominant urban model<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The urban model that has dominated since industrial development has led to the creation of cities with an excessive artificialisation of land and reduced public space, largely destined for road traffic. This understanding of city development has led to countless asymmetries and multidimensional regeneration problems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Urban districts designed with environmental, urban planning and zoning parameters that have now been superseded, are now facing comprehensive urban regeneration processes with new management and (re)planning criteria. Also, industrial spaces designed for a specific economic function have become obsolete and present structural deficits that need to be rethought and addressed from new transitional approaches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new paradigms of urban sustainability have an impact on this renewed conception of the urban and with viable responses to new social demands, to much more demanding environmental parameters, to necessary processes of energy transformation and to new models of economic and business activity in our cities.<\/p>\n\n\n

New paradigms for urban transformation<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The Second Edition of the Summer Course on Transformation, Regeneration and Naturalisation of the urban and industrial environment is a fundamental objective of this new paradigm of sustainable urbanism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Organised by NAIDER under the direction of Juan Iglesias and with the collaboration of Ihobe<\/a>, Nasuvinsa<\/a>, \u00c0rea Metropolitana de Barcelona<\/a>, Bilbao City Council<\/a>, Ensanche 21 Zabalgunea<\/a>, and Sestao Berri<\/a>, the course will combine theoretical sessions on the new concepts that are beginning to permeate urban planning and conception with real examples of urban transformations that have applied or apply these criteria as a way to reconceptualise urban environments and satisfy the different social, environmental and economic demands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
