Successive episodes of <strong>extreme temperatures<\/strong> and <strong>dryness<\/strong> recorded since spring have coincided with a particularly severe wildfire season across various parts of the peninsula. Extreme events also recurring internationally are a reminder of the need to make progress not only on <strong>mitigating<\/strong> climate change, but also on the <strong>adaptation<\/strong>, <strong>prevention<\/strong> and <strong>preparedness<\/strong> of territories and societies in the face of its impacts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Pact sets out a shared, lasting framework for progress on adaptation, mitigation, response and recovery in relation to climate phenomena, drawing on <strong>scientific knowledge<\/strong>, <strong>foresight<\/strong> and <strong>institutional cooperation<\/strong>. Its aim is to help build a more <strong>resilient<\/strong> and <strong>secure<\/strong> society, protecting people, the economy and biodiversity in an increasingly demanding climate context.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Pact seeks to build a shared response to the climate emergency, open to participation and accession by public administrations, organisations, businesses and other social and economic actors.
