Bilbao Metropoli 30, the Association for the Revitalisation of the Metropolitan Area of Bilbao Bilbao Metropoli 30, launched ‘The Bay Awards’ in 2023, an initiative to make visible urban initiatives and projects from all over the world that are capable of inspiring and promoting innovation in other places through shared knowledge. Taking advantage of the celebration of these awards, the Department of Economic Promotion of the Provincial Council of Bizkaia was interested in getting to know in depth the candidatures presented, which could represent projects of interest for the economic promotion and territorial competitiveness of Bizkaia.
NAIDER carried out a preliminary analysis of the more than 100 applications received and selected a short list of projects most closely linked to economic development and, in particular, industrial development. On the basis of the documents submitted for the Bay Awards, the analysis of each project was extended by consulting other sources of information, taking into account the territorial context of each initiative, the promoting bodies, the regional plans and strategies in which each project is framed, etc. The result is a catalogue of 15 international good practices in the field of economic promotion, in particular industrial development. The result is a catalogue of 15 international good practices in the field of economic promotion and territorial competitiveness, through which it is possible to gain an in-depth knowledge of the projects, to identify the contacts of the people and bodies promoting them and to synthesise a series of lessons that can inspire the development of projects adapted to the territorial reality and characteristics of Bizkaia.
