Beating chronic respiratory disease: the role of Europe’s environment

In Europe, more than a third (35%) of all deaths from chronic respiratory diseases can be attributed to major environmental factors, mainly air pollution (14%), cold (11%) or occupational exposure (8%), according to a report by the European Environment Agency.

This equates to more than 78,000 premature deaths that could be largely avoided by reducing pollution and tackling energy poverty.
