Participatory processes are often used for linear infrastructure projects related to roads, railways and streets to gauge public opinion and improve interventions. In some cases, this will create new public spaces for activities.
To find out how these processes can be approached, Bilbao Metropoli 30 commissioned Naider to analyse good practices that could be applied to future linear infrastructure projects in Bizkaia.
An initial list of 50 references was compiled and an initial filter was applied using different criteria, reducing the shortlist to 30. Eleven cases were then analysed in depth, covering various types of participatory processes related to projects such as bridge rehabilitation, railway tunnelling and pedestrianisation.
It is hoped that this work will contribute to the improvement of participatory processes promoted by public administrations, giving citizens a voice and enabling their needs to be met more effectively.
