According to what we can find out from the economist, the greatest margin comes from the taxes that the Spanish government applies to oil compared to the American government, since in the Spanish case there are three different taxes that are applied to crude oil ; the state, regional and VAT which ends up being 52% of the final price, while on the other side of the pond the taxes only represent 16%.
