Industrial innovation is essential for the development of critical technologies, to promote a circular economy and to reduce strategic and supply chain technology dependencies. In the context of these challenges and needs, the concept of “Strategic Autonomy” is recurrent in EU policies, adding the adjective “open” to underline the multilateral cooperation aspiration of the European project: Open Strategic Autonomy or OSA.

CONCORDi 2023, the European Business R&D&i Forum, was held in Seville on 24-26 October, and the Joint Research Centre’s working paper sets out Europe’s challenges for achieving this autonomy.
