The City Council of Vitoria-Gasteiz yesterday held the presentation of the 2030 Strategy and the Local Action Plan for the Circular Economy, and NAIDER, which is involved in several projects aimed at promoting circularity and decarbonisation in the city, was present at the event, which took place at the Villa Suso Palace in the medieval quarter of Vitoria-Gasteiz.
In the presence of Mayor Maider Etxebarria and Simon Clement, Director of Circular Economy at the Local Governments Network for Sustainability (ICLEI), the event served as an opportunity to sign Vitoria-Gasteiz’s accession to the European Declaration of Circular Cities, which has already been signed by Copenhagen, Rotterdam, Florence, Oslo, Budapest, Helsinki, Prague, Seville and Valladolid.
In addition to an inspiring speech by Sandra Pina, in which she confronted the foreseeable future with the desirable future, the presentation included two round tables. In the competitive circular economy round table, Julio Lumbreras (Director of citiES 2030, a state network for the development of the European Mission of Climate Neutral Cities), Javier Aguirre (Director of Quality and Circular Economy of the Basque Government) and Etxebarria himself spoke about the commitment to the circular economy.
The second round table, which focused on relevant aspects of the Action Plan for the next three years, was attended by technical managers from the City Council: Juncal Ibeas (Business/Industry Service), Andrés Alonso (Sustainability, Climate and Energy Service), Joseba Sánchez (Environmental Management Service) and Aitor Zulueta (Environmental Studies Centre). The round table highlighted the circular economy consultancy service that NAIDER will provide to SMEs in Vitoria-Gasteiz, a programme that will be presented on 26 September at the Jundiz Business Centre. In addition, the specific challenges of the city in the circular and sustainable transition were addressed, which we have had the opportunity to address in NAIDER through the study of energy rehabilitation and urban regeneration in the Ensanche blocks of the city, and which will be reflected in the Interactive Platform of the Observatory of Indicators of the Urban Agenda 2030, in the development and implementation of which we are collaborating.
