NAIDER has joined the State Pact against the Climate Emergency, an initiative launched by the Spanish Government to strengthen the collective response to the growing impacts of climate change.
The move comes against a backdrop in which the effects and risks associated with climate change are becoming increasingly evident. Successive episodes of extreme temperatures and dryness recorded since spring have coincided with a particularly severe wildfire season across various parts of the peninsula. Extreme events also recurring internationally are a reminder of the need to make progress not only on mitigating climate change, but also on the adaptation, prevention and preparedness of territories and societies in the face of its impacts.
The Pact sets out a shared, lasting framework for progress on adaptation, mitigation, response and recovery in relation to climate phenomena, drawing on scientific knowledge, foresight and institutional cooperation. Its aim is to help build a more resilient and secure society, protecting people, the economy and biodiversity in an increasingly demanding climate context.
The Pact seeks to build a shared response to the climate emergency, open to participation and accession by public administrations, organisations, businesses and other social and economic actors. With this accession, NAIDER reinforces its commitment to climate action and sustainable territorial development, areas that form part of its track record of work on multiple transitions.
