NAIDER’s autumn publication is now available to read. Under the title “Making room for the future”, this issue starts from a familiar observation: the future tends to find us with the house already full, crowded with urgent priorities, committed budgets and entrenched uses that are hard to revisit. The underlying question is how to open up opportunities for those who come after us, sustain what holds us together and change what holds us back.

The issue approaches that margin from three angles. Jokin Etxebarria introduces Hiri Ekonomia, an approach to governing the urban economy as a system, applied to data from Basque municipalities. Haizea Aguirre examines vibe manufacturing: how geopolitics, decarbonisation and artificial intelligence are once again making it viable to make and repair things close to home. And Iván de Torres considers what strategic planning is missing if it is to be guided by foresight. The issue also presents DataTools, territorial intelligence tools for planning decarbonisation, anticipating climate risks and expanding urban green infrastructure.

It is rounded off with a selection of transition keys, the quarter’s projects and a round-up of NAIDER news.

This edition comes with two new features. For the first time, the publication can be read in an interactive web version, with charts and resources to explore, and it is available in four languages: Basque, Spanish, Catalan and English. It can also be browsed as a double-page spread below.
