Naider attended Uhinak 2026, the 7th International Conference on Climate and Coastal Change, promoted by Ficoba and AZTI and held on 8 and 9 October at Ficoba in Irun.

Experts from different countries shared progress, experiences and work on climate change adaptation in marine and coastal environments.

Much of the programme focused on scientific knowledge, with presentations and posters on the latest evidence, studies and lines of research in the field.

There was also room to discuss governance and public management. Officials and technical staff from Basque and international administrations explained how adaptation is being addressed through planning and decision-making.

Communication emerged as another key challenge: explaining the road ahead clearly to citizens and stakeholders, in order to build the support and engagement needed to put adaptation measures into practice.

These discussions tie in directly with Naider’s work alongside AZTI and Ihobe to analyse climate risks and the action needed to advance adaptation in the Basque Country.

Uhinak was also a valuable opportunity to connect scientific knowledge with the day-to-day reality of public administrations: two spheres that increasingly need to work hand in hand to better understand the impacts of climate change and, above all, to move forward with the measures needed to tackle them.
