We have recently launched an important project for Ihobe, entitled ‘Analysis of the vulnerability and risks to climate change of coastal and littoral habitats of local and regional interest in the Basque Autonomous Community and proposal of an action plan‘. Together with Azti, a centre of excellence in marine research, we have provided the project with a first-class team of scientific and technical experts with extensive experience in vulnerability and risk, marine dynamics, adaptation, biodiversity and climate action plans, also specialising in the coastal enclave of the Basque Country.
Over the next few months, we will design and implement a proven methodology to analyse the vulnerability and risk of coastal and coastal habitats of community and regional interest in the Basque Country to the impacts of climate change and, based on the information generated, propose structured and prioritised adaptation measures in an action plan.
The project will also take into account the potential for mitigation, possible maladaptation measures and synergies between the two perspectives, in line with the integrated vision of climate action in the strategic planning and legislation of the Basque Country.
