A conference was held today with the technical and political representatives of the nine town councils that comprise the Nerbioi-Ibaizabal association. The meeting was part of the project piloted by the Mancomunidad to promote the use of Nature-Based Solutions in the region.

During the session, NAIDER presented a proposal for NBS that could be implemented in the region, as well as an initial suggestion for where they could be implemented in each municipality.

After briefly reviewing the characterisation of the region and the diagnosis of the natural capital of each municipality, which were presented in previous phases of the project, we spent some time teaching and training on what NBS are. We learnt about the importance of their implementation, the different types that exist, and where they could be implemented.

Representatives from each municipality analysed the set of implementation measures proposed for their municipality. These measures include adding green roofs, naturalising streets, improving squares, parks and gardens, permeabilising car parks, improving management in the agricultural and forestry sectors, and recovering terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems outside the urban fabric.

Each municipality has analysed their list of proposals and refined the analysis with their knowledge on the ground, reflecting on how to improve their municipality. They concluded with a list of possibilities that will be worked on in the coming weeks in order to obtain two emblematic projects per municipality that can be implemented in the short term.

The day has been useful for the municipal representatives to include these issues in their agenda, to rescue projects or to reformulate actions with a new perspective. The different municipalities have also shared and exchanged ideas, experiences and impressions. In short, a step closer to seeing how our territories and towns adapt to climate change hand in hand with nature.
