Amorebieta-Etxano City Council is driving a set of actions aimed at integrating nature restoration into the urban environment and advancing the municipality’s adaptation to the new European Nature Restoration Regulation. The project seeks to strengthen urban green infrastructure, improve climate resilience, and foster a more balanced relationship between city and nature.
NAIDER supports the City Council in identifying ecological restoration opportunities and defining concrete measures to improve urban biodiversity, increase vegetation cover, and recover ecosystem functions across different areas of the municipality. The work combines territorial analysis, environmental criteria, and urban planning to guide interventions aligned with the new European objectives on nature and climate.
The initiative connects the European regulatory framework with concrete and viable urban actions: improving green spaces, enhancing ecological connectivity, renaturalising urban areas, and incorporating nature-based solutions capable of contributing to both climate adaptation and population wellbeing.
The project also advances the integration of biodiversity and ecological restoration into municipal policies, embedding these criteria in urban planning and public space management. Beyond regulatory compliance, the experience consolidates a vision of urban nature as essential infrastructure for addressing the impacts of climate change, improving environmental quality, and strengthening the liveability of the municipality.
