As part of the technical assistance we provide to the Sustainability Department of Bilbao City Council, Naider has participated in the participatory process for the renaturalisation of the Torreurizar neighbourhood.

On the 20th of March, a workshop was held with the residents of the neighbourhood, focusing on the transformation of the public space of the area in which the municipal company Bilbao Etxebizitzak is intervening. This process was coordinated jointly by the Sustainability Department and Bilbao Etxebizitzak.

With the collaboration of LurStudio, we had the opportunity to present to the neighbours the work done on the measurement of different environmental parameters and green infrastructure indicators in the area of Torreurizar.

This project will serve as a pilot experience for the City Council, as it will allow to test and adjust the tool developed by Naider in the framework of the drafting of the Green Infrastructure Strategy of the town. This tool establishes intervention criteria based on the analysis of various climatic and environmental parameters that can be improved through the incorporation of green infrastructure in public spaces.

Participants filled in different panels to define their level of ambition in terms of renaturation to combat problems such as heatwaves or flooding, and to improve the biodiversity and environmental health of the neighbourhood. These panels will be available at Opengela Torreurizar until the end of the month so that the rest of the neighbourhood can take part. We will then draw conclusions to optimise the tool and extend this model to other urban interventions.
