This Thursday, April 30, within the framework of Ortuella’s School Agenda 2030, the much-anticipated second-hand market was successfully held in Otxartaga square, as the result of a participatory process involving the different schools in Ortuella after three previous workshops.

Throughout these sessions, students from Ortuella worked collaboratively, organizing themselves into different working groups where they distributed key responsibilities for setting up the event. Among the main tasks carried out were the collection and classification of materials—clothing, toys, books, and other items donated by local residents—price setting, money management, as well as the assembly and disassembly of the stalls.

The market, held to coincide with the beginning of the town’s festivities, was a great success. Students organized their stands with strong commitment, demonstrating excellent coordination and teamwork skills. Community participation was also remarkable, with a large number of donated items bringing life to this initiative linked to SDG 12: Responsible Consumption.

The money raised during the day will be donated to the organization Agua de Coco, contributing to a social cause, while the remaining clothing will be given to Koopera for reuse. To conclude, the organizing students enjoyed a well-deserved hamaiketako in recognition of their work.

This experience shows that when people work together towards a common goal, the results are highly positive. An initiative that not only promotes responsible consumption, but also strengthens values such as solidarity, engagement, and commitment to the environment.
